Frequently asked questions
Which payment processor has the lowest chargeback fee?
Lemon Squeezy and Paddle and Square absorb the chargeback fee (effectively $0). Is the chargeback fee refunded if I win the dispute?
Sometimes. Stripe and Helcim refund the dispute fee if you win the chargeback; many others do not. Either way you lose the disputed sale amount if you lose, plus the goods. Reducing chargebacks (clear billing descriptors, fast refunds, fraud screening, 3-D Secure) matters more than the per-dispute fee.
Do Merchant-of-Record platforms charge chargeback fees?
Merchant-of-Record platforms (Paddle, Lemon Squeezy) handle chargebacks for you as part of their higher rate, so you generally do not pay a separate per-dispute fee — they carry the fraud and dispute liability. That is part of what you pay the 5% + $0.50 for.
