Payment-processing fee calculator

Find your true effective payment-processing rate and see every processor ranked cheapest first. Enter your monthly card volume, average transaction size and the share of international cards; the calculator blends the percentage rate, fixed per-transaction fee, cross-border surcharge and any monthly fee into one effective % across all flat-rate processors. Everything runs in your browser on a June 2026 price snapshot. Interchange-plus and subscription processors are listed separately because they have no single blended rate.

Data as of June 2026.

Note: These are general estimates, not a quote or offer. Your real rate depends on your card mix, volume, region, risk profile and the contract you sign.

How the effective rate is calculated

The formula is transparent:

monthly cost = volume x pct% + fixed fee x transactions + cross-border surcharge + fixed monthly fee

effective rate = monthly cost / monthly volume x 100

The percentage and fixed fee come from each processor's published pricing page (a dated June 2026 snapshot). The cross-border surcharge (default +1.5%) is applied only to your international card share. The estimate excludes chargeback fees, currency conversion, PCI/statement fees, hardware and discounts. See the methodology for the full detail and how we treat interchange-plus processors.

Frequently asked questions

How does the payment-fee calculator work?

Enter your monthly card volume, your average transaction size and the share of international cards. The calculator computes each flat-rate processor's blended effective cost — percentage of volume + fixed fee per transaction + cross-border surcharge on your international share + any fixed monthly fee — then ranks them cheapest first and highlights the winner. All prices are a dated June 2026 snapshot held in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

Why is the effective rate different from the headline rate?

The headline rate (e.g. 2.9% + $0.30) only becomes a single percentage once you fix a transaction size. The $0.30 fixed fee is 3% of a $10 sale but 0.15% of a $200 sale. The calculator divides total fees by total volume to give the true blended effective rate for YOUR average ticket.

Why are Adyen, Checkout.com and Stax not in the ranking?

Those processors price on interchange-plus or a subscription model and do not publish a single blended percentage, so we cannot honestly compute one flat effective rate without your exact card mix. They are listed separately as quote-based. At high volume they often beat the flat-rate processors shown.

What does the estimate exclude?

Chargeback/dispute fees, currency conversion beyond the cross-border surcharge, PCI compliance and statement fees, hardware costs, refunds, and any negotiated or volume discounts. Treat the result as a planning estimate and verify on each provider's pricing page. These are general estimates, not a quote or offer. Your real rate depends on your card mix, volume, region, risk profile and the contract you sign.
